Career Planning

Discover yourself, design your future and plan for your dream job…

There are so many opportunities, so many different types of jobs and careers in a wide variety of industries — and there are also other career paths that are just emerging.

Even if you are fairly sure of a career choice, take the time in high school to explore careers.

Explore all your options.

Examine your likes and dislikes.

If you could have any job right now, what would it be — and why?

Don’t let any barriers hold you back from finding the perfect career.

Work, volunteer, gain some experience, check out the internship opportunities for high-school students.

The more you are exposed to, the more options will open to you as you search out careers.

Work experience looks good on college applications — and on future job applications and resumes.

Remember that everyone must follow his or her own path in life.

Make a plan, but remember that things happen, and your plans may need to change… so keep an open mind.

Some of your friends — or perhaps you — already know,

or think you know, what you want to do in life.

It’s ok to change your mind.

The career you thought was your first choice might not be the best fit for you.

Take the time for some career assessments and career exploration to expand the possibilities of potential majors and career paths.

You just might find a career path you didn’t know you were interested in.

Everyone’s career path is different.

Whatever career path you choose remember that you can change your mind at any time.

A career is not a life sentence.

If at some point you realize, ‘I don’t want to do this,’ ask yourself these questions:

What am I good at?

What do I like to do?

Put a plan together and go for it.
