The PSAT/NMSQT® (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test) is a practice version of the SAT.
Taking the PSAT helps you prepare for the SAT or ACT, and a strong score during your junior year can qualify you for the National Merit Scholarship Program. Each year, more than $180 million in scholarships are awarded to high-scoring students.
About the Test:
- Length: 2 hours, 45 minutes
- Sections: Reading, Writing, and Math
- Highest Score: 1520
Why It Matters:
The PSAT measures what you’re learning in high school and the skills you’ll need for college success.
Who Can Take It?
- The PSAT is offered once a year in mid-October.
- Students sign up in September.
- The fee is $18.
- Sophomores and juniors may take the test, but only junior-year scores count toward the National Merit Scholarship Program.
